Spider Vein Laser Therapy
Consultation required prior to receiving treatment.
Spider veins are dilated blood vessels on the skin's surface. They appear red or blue, and may be connected in web or branched pattern, or short, individual lines. Laser technology offers an effective means of treating spider veins. Laser light is absorbed by the spider veins, causing the vessels to heat and in turn causing the blood in the vessels to collapse.
This treatment is for one 30-minute session of spider vein therapy. A 30 minute session is about the size of a fist depending on the vessels. 2 or 3 treatments, spaced eight weeks apart, may be required for best results.
What are spider veins?
Spider veins are similar to varicose veins, but they are smaller. They are often red or blue and are closer to the surface of the skin than varicose veins. They can look like tree branches or spider webs with their short jagged lines. Spider veins can be found on the legs and face. They can cover either a very small or very large area of skin.
How does Palomar laser vein treatment work?
Lasers deliver concentrated light in a specific wavelength of the spectrum. Each wavelength is absorbed by a different target, such as pigment, blood, or water. The Palomar delivers light pulses which are ideal for targeting leg veins. The light pulses heat the blood within the vein. The heat of the blood affects the vessel lining, which causes the vessel to constrict and eventually fade from view. This can be used on facial or leg veins.
What are Palomar laser leg vein treatments like?
Your treatment provider will move the handpiece over your skin, following the length of the vein, pulsing it all the while. Each pulse will send a beam of light through your skin. A flashing light, an audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin will tell you when the handpiece is being pulsed.
Are these treatments safe? Are they painful?
Your provider will go over the risks and benefits of treatment with you. Palomar vein treatments are skin-safe and comfortable. The Palomar delivers its energy in one smooth, gentle pulse, to protect the skin from a sharp rise in temperature.

What should I expect after treatment?
Immediately after treatment, you can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling. This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs.
